Sussera Olyn @ Oranje Museum

Sussera Olyn describes her inspiration for this piece:

“This monument, built in 1884, is located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, on the banks of the Orange River. It represents the unselfish contribution made by the donkey in the development of the Lower Orange River Valley.

The history of this animal and its contribution to the development of our town, speaks of the resilience and the patience of this strong animal. We often underestimate the value of the donkey. Through this short piece of choreography I want to honour this animal for the lessons we can learn from it as human beings, lessons of resilience, perseverance, relentlessness, commitment and humility.
