This idea for this video came to me on a long hike. I don’t remember how it started, but I do remember how I composed the visuals in my head, from start to finish, every slide and shot in mind, whilst on this hike. By the time I got to my car, I was so eager to get home and start with the video!
I knew that I wanted something really, really tender and honest to represent the emotional turmoil I was going through at that stage. I fell in love in an absolute way, and it was not returned. This launched my mind into a downward spiral, with the emotions to go with it, which lasted for months and months. Deciding to turn to a stop-motion animation style was almost a rite of passage – I had to draw out every scene myself, capture it on camera, erase it, and draw the next scene. It was heart-wrenching, but it felt very right to be telling the story in its utmost truth.
The song in the video was actually written before I made the movie, and I kind of built the images on the music.
